The Lakewood Difference
owners that teach
Lakewood Montessori’s leadership focuses on the best interest of the children at all times. The owners, Mary Clements and Karen Dugmore, are also classroom teachers at the school. Consequently, they have a unique perspective that positively affects the quality of the entire school. “What is best for the child?” is always the first consideration.

nurture the heart
At Lakewood Montessori, we recognize that our strong academic program is only half of the equation! Children who understand their responsibility to humanity become happy, contributing adults who improve the world they inherit. Therefore, at Lakewood Montessori, a special focus is placed on building positive character traits such as respect for others, independence, and love of learning. We think of this as nurturing the spirit, or heart, of each child.

emphasis on the arts
Arts Education is not an “extra” at Lakewood Montessori. Rather, it is seen as an important part of the curriculum. Formal art instruction, music and movement, and foreign language are included in tuition. Our focus on the arts allows children to embrace wonder and beauty. It also cultivates self-expression, imagination and creativity, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
