Mathematics

“…children posses all the instinctive knowledge necessary as a preparation for clear ideas on numeration.” –Dr. Montessori

Maria Montessori believed that all people have a “mathematical mind”, meaning the human mind desires to find and create order, pattern, and sequence.  The Montessori child is uniquely prepared for success in math through the exercises of practical life and sensorial.   Formal math instruction begins with specially designed Montessori math materials.

These hands-on manipulatives encourage the child to explore mathematical relationships in a concrete form.   Math lessons begin with quantity and numerals, introduction to the concept of zero, the decimal system, and the four functions, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
