The Montessori child is uniquely prepared for success in math through the exercises of practical life and sensorial. Formal math instruction begins with specially designed Montessori math materials.
These hands-on manipulatives encourage the child to explore mathematical relationships in a concrete form. Math lessons begin with quantity and numerals, introduction to the concept of zero, the decimal system, and the four functions, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
